Major R. Moore

 Age 88, passed away June 22, 2013. He was born October 8, 1924, in Lansing, son of Charles and Marion Moore.

Major graduated from Lansing Central High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He went on to attend MSU. He worked for the Board of Water & Light for 35 years, retiring in 1985 as a traffic control supervisor. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, snow skier and Spartan fan.

He is survived by Matthew Dyer, who was like a son; nephews, Jeff, Bill and John Fitzgerald; nieces, Terri Canfield, Sharon Stringham, Betsy Holcomb, Kathy Pelton, Lori Schmidt; special cousin, Merry Thornburg; and many, many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Walker and Patsy Fitzgerald; and nephew, Tommy Walker.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Major’s caregivers at Comfort Keepers, especially Bridget and Brenda, as well as the staff at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan for their care.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Science Reading Room in East Lansing or to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
