Lovella L. “Lovey” Lovell

March 21, 1944 – February 8, 2025
Our Lovey has embarked on her next great adventure! After a brief illness, she traded her earthly garden for a heavenly one while her loving cat Priscilla stayed by her side. We’re sure she’s already catching up with all her favorite furry friends like Isabel, Cody, Ike, and Tinky who crossed the rainbow bridge before her.
Lovey will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her (and there were many!). She left a little sparkle wherever she went and will forever be remembered for her infectious smile and kind heart. Retiring from the Michigan Department of Transportation after years of dedicated service, Lovey finally had time to focus on what truly mattered: perfecting her golf swing, riding her Harley, cultivating her green thumb, enjoying friends and family, and showering love on every creature, great and small. Nature was her happy place, and she embraced it with open arms on her long walks in the park.
Lovey joins her loving parents, Earl and Anna Lovell, her brother, John H. Lovell, sister, June Short, niece, Dianna Lovell, and nephews, Jon C. Lovell and Chad Christian, in that great beyond. We can only imagine the joyous reunion!
Left to cherish her memory are her sisters: JoAnna Smith (Lansing), Joyce DePue (Holt), Judy Minich (Lansing), Jeanie Fortman (Tennessee), and sister-in-law, Kay Lovell (Lansing) and her nieces and nephews: Michael Smith, Kim Smith, Brian Smith, Kathy Jo Ross, Eric Lovell, Kenda Bublitz, Carrie & Terri Christian (and many more).
The celebration of Lovey’s life will be held at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing. The celebration begins when the family receives friends on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Come share your favorite “Lovey” stories and help us send her off with love and laughter. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery, with pallbearers being her nephews, Kim Smith, Eric Lovell, Josiah Chavez, and nephew-in-law, Mike Todd.

The celebration will continue in March around her birthday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Capital Area Humane Society or any local animal rescue in the Lansing area. Online condolences may be left for her family at www.EstesLeadley.com.

February 11, 2025 at 9:13 amI always felt that her name perfectly matched her personality. She was a beautiful soul with a witty laugh and a heart full of love. I had the pleasure of working with Lovey for many years at MDOT, often crossing paths in the hallways. She never failed to give me a hug and remind me, “Hang in there, girl. You got this.” And she was right. I am truly honored to have known her and to have been touched by the light she shared. May she rest peacefully, surrounded by her beloved fur babies in heaven. Thank you for sharing the sunshine, Lovey! Forever in our hearts.

February 11, 2025 at 9:37 amOh Lovey, one cannot say enough about you. We had disagreements but we always hugged after and said I love you. I will always remember our many talks about animals. Your laugh was the best and I think the loudest. RIP my friend and I am sure all your family to include your furry ones are there to greet you. Loved you.

February 11, 2025 at 2:55 pmOh Lovey … I’m so saddened to hear of your passing. I cannot believe that the last time we went out for lunch was the last time we saw each other. I will miss you terribly and never forget you. All the stories we shared while working at MDOT, and the black wooden Buddha statue gift you surprised me one morning — all are wonderful memories that I’ve always treasured. You were a beautiful soul and will be missed by all who knew you and loved you. Rest in peace, my Lovely friend! May angel’s chorus greet you in heaven.
