Lou Anne Houchlei

Age 58, of Holt, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at St. Lawrence Hospice Center after a 3 ½ year battle with breast cancer. For the last 13 years, Lou Anne was employed by the State of Michigan, most recently within the Department of Management, Technology & Budget.

Lou Anne will be missed dearly and remembered by her family, friends and co-workers for her artistic talent, photographic skills, and her love of nature and the outdoors. Most of all Lou Anne enjoyed any experience that involved being on the water with her friends and a fishing rod in her hand.

Lou Anne was preceded in death by her parents John and Nancy Houchlei. Surviving are her brothers John Houchlei of Naperville, Ill.; Mark (Teri) Houchlei of Dimondale; Matt (Tina) Houchlei of Vermontville; Tim (Karen) Houchlei of Mason; and many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with Pastor Steve Malson presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions for those wishing to honor Lou Anne’s memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or to Potter Park Zoo.

We were friends since 7th grade. When we appointed ourselves as the characters in the movie “Beaches” we never realized the ending would be true to our lives too. We fought and loved like sisters. I can’t believe you have gone out of my life forever. I miss you already.
I take comfort thinking you are with your mother now, and I will see you again someday.

Lou Anne, Your love of camping, fishing and your appreciation for nature is something we’ll always have in common. I loved reading your journal entries up at the farm in Benzonia. I can still hear your laugh. We will all miss you so much, but most of all by your brothers, Johnny, Matt, Mark & Tim. Our thoughts & prayers are with you guys. Love cousin Katy
