Lois Mae Nealey

Age 88, of Grand Ledge, MI, passed away peacefully in Lansing on April 6, 2026. Lois was born in Muskegon on May 17, 1937, and lived most of her life in the Lansing and Grand Ledge area.

Lois graduated with her RN license in 1958 from Edward W. Sparrow School of Nursing before working for many years as Head Nurse of Labor and Delivery at Sparrow Hospital. After raising a family, Lois worked at Lansing Community College where she was an instructor for over 20 years. She not only created the certification program for CNAs at the request of the State of Michigan, she developed a Medical Terminology course still required in many programs today. Retiring in 2007, Lois loved baking to show her love for friends and family. She also volunteered for 10 years at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. In 2025, Lois was honored with being the first Living Tribute to the Greater Lansing Area Nurses Honor Guard.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth Nealey (Maria), Norman Nealey (Rachel), David Nealey (Melissa), Kathryn Spurlock, and Penny Talmadge; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many friends at Independence Village Assisted Living in Grand Ledge and special friends who became family from Lansing Community College.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, brother Don, son Douglas, and grandchildren Troy, Sue, and Chuck.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 7740 W. St. Joseph Hwy., Lansing, MI 48917. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to a luncheon at the church following the service and the interment at Wacousta Cemetery to end the day.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either “Stephen’s Fund” through Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan (select “Hospice Services” from the drop down menu).

Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
