Leonard James “Jim” McDonald, 91, of Holt, formerly of Lansing and Dimondale, passed peacefully to a new life on the morning of November 12, 2016. Born August 5, 1925, in Cheboygan, MI, he married Flora Birdsall on June 22, 1947, in Cheboygan two days after she graduated from high school. They moved to Lansing where he began a 40-year career with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. After Flora’s passing in 1984, he married Beverly Roberts in 1995. For many years he was a volunteer at Ingham Medical Center and was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who we will greatly miss.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Flora and Beverly; two brothers, Raymond and Harold; and his parents, Renest and Frieda (Bauer) McDonald. He is survived by three children, Shari (David) Schaberg, Larry (Suzanne) McDonald, and Tari (Phillip) Teremi; six grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
The family thanks the staff at Holt Heritage Village and all the other caregivers who treated Jim with such great respect and love.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing chapel. His family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8: 00 p.m. Tuesday, as well as one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dimondale United Methodist Church, 6801 Creyts Rd. Dimondale, MI 48821 or a charity of one’s choice.
