Lawrence Alfred “Larry” Drolett, Jr.

DeWitt, Michigan.

Lawrence Alfred Drolett Jr., age 89, died on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Larry was born in Lansing, Michigan, on September 9, 1936. He was the son of Dr. Lawrence A. Sr. and Mildred (Henriott) Drolett, the grandson of Dr. Fred and Grace Drolett, and the nephew of Dr. Donald and Kay Drolett. Larry graduated from Sexton High School in 1954 and went on to attend the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. He graduated in 1961 from Wisconsin Institute majoring in Mortuary Science as a Funeral Director. His first employment was at Estes-Leadley Funeral Home in Lansing where he worked for 16 years. Larry took a break from the funeral business and worked for Wonch Battery for 9 years and then went to work at McFadden School Bus Company for 3 years. He then decided to go back into the funeral business in 1989 and went to work for Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes for 20 years, then retired in 2001. Larry was honored along with some of his colleagues at the MFDA Dinner in 2011 by receiving his 50-year award as a Funeral Director.  After retirement he joined the FOF Golf Group where he played 4 times a week but helped out at other funeral homes when they called. Larry was an avid golf and sports nut who loved watching all kinds of sports and cheering on MSU & U of M. Larry was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in DeWitt and was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus #788 (3^rd degree & 4^th degree) and as a veteran, served his country with the United States Marine Corps Reserves for 6 years.

Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and in-laws; brother, Joseph; son, Thomas; and grandson, Lincoln Curtis Walker.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Kay (Hartman) Drolett; sons, John (Lynne) Drolett, David (Anna) Drolett, William (Baylie) Baker, and daughter, Katie (Matthew) Walker; grandchildren, Corey (Megan) Drolett, Nicole (Seth) Caron, Monica Drolett, Natalie Davidson, Alex Drolett & Patrick Drolett, Gabriella, Chloe & Lucas Walker; great-grandchildren, Blake & Devon Drolett, Jackson & Cora Caron, Dahlia & Ivy Douglass, Theodore & Opal Davidson, and Elijah Drolett; brother, Jim (Libby) Drolett; step-brother, Daniel (Michelle) Drolett; cousins, Anne (Tim) Creany and Barbara (Doyle) Long; along with many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Dave Speicher of St. Jude’s Catholic Church and Pastor Steve Ezop at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, MI.  His family will receive relatives and friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, August 28^th at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will take place in Gunnisonville Cemetery.
