Lawrence “Larry” Dunn

Mason, MI

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend went home to be with his Lord and his dearly-loved wife on March 19, 2018.

Born to Leo and Leota Dunn on June 12, 1921, in Wheeler, Michigan, Larry is survived by his three daughters, Mary Blair, Nancy (Jim) Stillson, Kathi (John) Betts and two sons, David Dunn and Jim (Kristy) Dunn, as well as seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by three siblings and is survived by one brother, Robert (Carol).

Larry worked tirelessly for his family and was a loving father to his five children and devoted partner to his wife, Blanche, for 71 years.  He and Blanche met at a church party, were engaged on Pearl Harbor Day, were married in Florida in 1943, and returned to winter there for 36 years after he retired.

Larry served in the Navy during World War II from December 15, 1941 to December 12, 1945 at the Banana River Naval Air Force Base, working as a radio radar technician in a PBM Mariner airplane in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.  He also served aboard the U.S.S. Norton Sound B11 as a seaplane tender.

After the war, he worked for GM, Fisher Body for 33 years before retiring in 1975.

Some of his greatest joys were camping with his family, storytelling, gardening, playing cards, and square dancing with Blanche and their many friends.  He also enjoyed riding his bike, taking daily walks and being outdoors.

Larry was a member of the Holt United Methodist Church since 1956.   He was a gregarious person who made friends wherever he went.

His family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Grandhaven Living Center and his friends, Bob and Jan Hamel and Dorothy Wiley.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018, at the Holt United Methodist Church, 2321 North Aurelius Road, Holt, Michigan.  Viewing will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the church and 1 hour before the service on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holt United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
