Larry Lee “Duckie” Fickes

Born July 19, 1944 in Lansing, Michigan son of the late Carl and Nellie (Adams) Fickes passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at age 79.

Larry was a 1963 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School and was employed for 34 ½ years by General Motors before retiring in 1997.  He was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed watching baseball as he was quite the player when he was younger.

Surviving is his wife of almost 60 years, Sandra Fickes; children, Michele Fickes of Lansing, Mark Fickes of Lansing, and Larry (Kristin) Fickes, II of Fountain Hills, AZ; grandsons, James and Benjamin Fickes; sister, MaryJane Yoder of Mackinac City, MI; nephews, David and Jim Fickes; niece, Marilyn Waterhouse; nephews, Greg and Steve Yoder along with many other extended family members.

Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn (Russ) Aseltine of Petoskey, MI; brother, Carl (Barbara) Fickes, Jr. of Anchorage, AK; and brother-in-law, Art Yoder of Mackinac City, MI.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Parker Memorial Baptist Church, 1902 E. Cavanaugh Rd., Lansing.  Interment will take place at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Okemos.  The family will receive visitors at the Church on Saturday for 1 hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be: Mark Fickes, Larry Fickes II, Clare Ruff, Charles Riley, Bill Taft, John Gibson, Dennis Low, and Don Swaynie.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in memory of Larry, to Parker Memorial Baptist Church.

Larry will be remembered for his generosity, love of duck hunting, and his devotion to both family and faith.

Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
