Ladislado “Lalo” Marinez, Jr.
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and role model, Lalo, at the age of 85, on June 27, 2026.
Lalo was born on March 22, 1941, to the late Ladislado Sr. and Petra Marinez in Crystal City, Texas.
Lalo grew up as a farm worker, graduated from his school & later college. He served in the US Army, often telling stories of his time in Greenland in the 1960’s. Lalo had a love of history, especially that of his own heritage. Combined with his natural gift of storytelling, Lalo often shared stories and lessons of our family from generations before. Lalo had a strong work ethic and a passion for social justice, which influenced his career working for Cristo Rey Church as a counselor and the State of Michigan Department of Labor retiring after 30 years. He spent much of his life serving the needs of the Hispanic community in Lansing, Michigan and helped start many organizations with the goal of supporting and bringing people together. Most of all Lalo, was selfless, always putting others before himself. His love, smile, laugh and his joy for life will remain in our hearts forever and live on through his family.
Preceded in death by Mark Mogg (son), Robyn Ripley (daughter), Alberto Marinez (brother), Socorro Cervantes (sister) and Martha Marinez (sister).
Survived by his wife Anna Marinez; children Brooke (Don) Sneed (daughter), Chrysti-an “Tina” Marinez (daughter): grandchildren Cristopher (Crystal) Ripley (grandson), Emily Ripley (granddaughter), Madeline Marinez Hansen (granddaughter), Christie Sneed (granddaughter) and Robert Tashjian (grandson); Siblings Rene Marinez (brother), Magdelina Rivera (sister), Gloria (John) Garcia (sister), Rosalinda (Santiago) Fuentes (sister) and Francis Gutierrez (sister).
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, 102 W. Randolph St. Lansing, MI 48906, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church.
Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

July 1, 2026 at 6:01 pmSo sad about this. Mr.. Marinez, as I would call him, or Chrysti’s dad. He was such a wonderful man, loving and gentle. He loved his wife and kids beyond words. His smile was the best. I’m so sorry for your loss, Marinez family.

He would call me a couple of times a year, asking how I was doing, my family and his family. We talked about all the people we worked with and when we got together at reunions with them.
