Kay E. Chaffee

Kay was born on October 8, 1934 to Ward and Helen Dalton and raised in Dimondale, MI, the eldest of 3 daughters. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 9, 2015. She retired from the State Capitol Building in Lansing.

Devotion to family, including her husband of over 37 years as well as her children, grandchildren and their families was her top priority. They are truly her legacy. She also cared deeply for many others. She was passionate about her lawn and yard and spent countless hours tending to them. She was always coming up with new ideas to further her landscape vision. Kay will be remembered for her deep love, playfulness, generosity and her overall joy and happiness.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harry as well as a sister, Cheryl Dalton. Kay is survived by sister Joanne Hummel, children Thomas W. “Tom” Brown (fiancée Debbie Murphy), Kandy (John) Molesphini, grandchildren Kailey Jo Brown, Jacob Ward Brown, John “Anthony” Molesphini and Alyssa Kaye Molesphini. Joanne, Kandy and family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences. I was very sorry to hear of Kay’s passing. I adored her and she was the epitome of a lady. I so admired the sisterly relationship between Kay, Jo and Cheryl. I will cherish the memories our families made together. May the love of family and friends comfort you all during this very difficult time.

Kandy, Tommy and family, Our deepest sympathy in the passing of your mom. She was a beautiful lady that was always ready with a smile, hug and conversation whenever you saw her. My mom and dad rented their first house from her at 910 Dornell in Lansing. My mom always said that Kay said she knew she was going to rent to them when she saw that my tennis shoes were sparkling white because she knew they would keep the place clean and tidy. From that time on, they grew to be great friends and always were. She will be deeply missed.
