Karen Shortt

Karen ShorttKaren Sue Shortt, 64, of Floyd, New Mexico, passed away on April 23, 2021, after a valiant battle with breast cancer; or shall we say passed from life to life. You have turned my mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11).

Brought up not knowing her value, when one day she encountered Jesus the Messiah and experienced the Father’s love. Now knowing her value and radically changed, she had found purpose in her life. Now we can imagine the Messiah looking deeply in her eyes, smiling, taking His finger and wiping her tears away, saying “Welcome Home”.

She was born to parents Kathy Gibbs and Ray Gibbs, on 06/25/1956 in Park Ridge, Illinois. Her passions included crafting, organizing, playing the guitar, singing, and dancing anywhere and everywhere. She was known to twirl at the end of sentences and in many situations. She also worked as a Surgical Technician for more than 20 years. After her death, she donated her body to science, as medicine and research were especially important to her.

Together, Karen and Lee raised 5 children: Sarah, Ben, Mark, Kristin, Jessica. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved being silly and her faith in God was one of the most important things to her.

Karen is survived by Lee Shortt, ex-husband; children Sarah Williams, Ben Shortt (Christine), Mark Shortt, Kristin Thomas, and Jessica DeMay; many grandchildren; and dear friends Christine, Maria, and Luisa. She is also survived by her brothers, Jeff Gibbs, Tom Gibbs, and Pat Gibbs.

She was preceded in death by Kathy Gibbs, mother, and Ray Gibbs, father.

We are so sad for us, but so happy for her – she is pain free and once again dancing and twirling (this time, in heaven).

A small memorial service will be held in May in Lansing.

Sarah,

We are saddened to hear of Karen’s passing; I’m sure she will be missed. We have many fond memories of the Shortt family living across the street from us in East Lansing. We have kept track of Karen, albeit remotely, via Facebook. We pray God comfort you all in a way only He can. Please keep us advise of memorial arrangements.

Karen was a true Saint! With many difficult battles in her life, she faced them all with ‘joy in the Lord.’ A few years back she sent us a song she wrote for my wife. I’m sorry I missed her memorial service. She was a bright star in this dark world. Blessings of her life of faith shine forth to her family and friends. Until we meet again- Shalom dear sister!
