Joyce A. Burt

Age 86, passed away October 20, 2019. She was born October 15, 1933, in Williamston, Michigan, to the late Harry and Florence Reinsmith.

Joyce attended Dimondale Public Schools. Her favorite subjects were math and home economics. She was employed by Spartan Department Stores and managed the jewelry department. This inspired her love of jewelry! She was the “lunch lady” at Sycamore Elementary School, and then she became a seamstress and developed many friendships with anyone who needed alterations, including businesses in the Holt area. She even repaired sports uniforms for the Holt Rams!

Joyce loved doing arts and crafts and even came up with her own patterns by just looking at a picture. She loved planting and taking care of her flowers. Her “green thumb” was obvious to anyone who drove by her house or walked inside to see all of her plants. She loved attending senior-citizen activities such as: senior league softball games with her husband Merle, Florida and Mackinaw trips, casino visits, and most of all spending time with family and attending her grandkids’ activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 15 years, Lurton Lovell; her husband of 37 years, Merle Burt; granddaughter, Jenny Peters; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

She is survived by her 7 children, Marv (Joyce) Burt, Pat (Scott) Somers, Gary Lovell, Linda Lovell-Tamer, Ken (Kendra) Burt, Doug (Judy Gutzman) Burt, and Diane (Randy) McKenzie; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marietta Overla; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery. Her family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ingham County Medical Care Facility (Okemos) or Great Lakes Christian Homes (Holt).

Joyce’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Ingham County Medical Care Facility for their wonderful care they provided Joyce and her family.
