Jolene was my big little sister. She was 17 months older than me. We did everything together. One Christmas Eve we stayed up for hours (probably in reality 45 minutes). Unbelievably we saw Santa Claus, the sled and the reindeer. We ran to our bed because we knew if Santa saw us there would be no presents. I’ve never plopped in a bed so fast, with Jolene right behind me. Jolene always did my hair. I can remember her pulling scotch tape off my bangs so they would go straight. When kids would pick on me because of my weight, Jolene was my biggest protector. Back in the day nails went to a point. The ones that hurt me with words received Jo’s wrath. I can also remember how we would start laughing when we should be sleeping. We’d hear Dad snap his leather belt … followed with….”if l hear one more word up there you’re gonna be in trouble.” His threat never happened. He would have never walked up the stairs. lol
Jo, thank you for being my sister, my protector, and never once missing my birthday. I love you. And Doug, thank you for being Jolene’s protector for 40 years.

I’ve been gone so much of my life from Michigan. My cousins are all so young in most of my memories. Hard to imagine Jolene being 78, much less finishing her trips around the sun. Godspeed on this new path.

Hi Cheryll, your mom was a pretty lady. She sounds like a fun person. Probably where you get your sense of humor. Peace to your family and may she rest in peace.
