John E. Williams
Holt, Michigan
John passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023 at age 87. He was born in Charlotte, Michigan. He attended and graduated from J.W. Sexton High School. After graduation, he and several friends from high school joined the United States Marine Corps.
John worked for the Monumental Life Insurance Company for more than thirty years and later as an agent for the Chapman Insurance Agency. After retiring, he and his wife Betty purchased On The Spot Engraving and served their many customers for over 20 years, a venture they both enjoyed. John served the community through the Delhi Township Parks and Recreation Commission and the South Lansing Business Association. He was a long-time member of the Holt United Methodist Church.
When John’s sons were young, he coached their flag football teams, and served as President of the league which consisted of 24 teams and over 400 players. Later in life, he coached an adult co-ed softball team for more than 20 years. John enjoyed competing in the Waverly 39’ers Bowling League and playing various games, especially Mexican Train Dominos. He followed MSU Sports, and the Detroit Tigers and Lions.
John is survived by his wife Betty of 64 years; Sister, Margaret Harman and Brother, Larry Williams; Sons, Eric (Mary) and Timothy (Jenny), Son-in-law, Monty Bigelow; eight Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his beloved Daughter, Bethany Jo Bigelow; his Brother and Sister-in-Law, Bernard (Elsie) Williams, and his sister Jane Ann Williams.
A memorial service will be officiated by Rev. Anita K. Hahn at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Holt United Methodist Church with a luncheon to follow.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in memory of John, to either Holt United Methodist Church or McLaren Home Hospice.

June 22, 2024 at 5:48 pmWell I knew an worked with John for many years, glad I stopped to see him in 2022 on my way through his area stopping to give him some pictures of him an his family. Wished I’d stopped again when I got back in 2023 to give him some more pictures I found. Lives change, people go in different ways but life still continues. My sympathies for the family for their loss.
