I entered LCC in 1975 with no direction and certainly no love of learning or knowledge. Good fortune smiled on me and placed me in John Ducat’s Sociology class. For the first time I understood scientific method, applied it and grasped its relevance in the world. Of course, John’s passion for the environment shown through. I frequently think of him as I recycle, compost and promote conservation of our resources. Thank you Mr. Ducat for sparking my excitement for learning. Due in part to you, I went on the have a thirty year career teaching Social Studies in public schools. I can only hope I inspired students as you inspired me. I know I’m not alone in these sentiments, as several acquaintances have remarked with fondness…..”oh, you had John Ducat too”. You really were a memorable instructor. Farewell my friend.

John was a member of my graduating class in 1961 from Bath High School. I always considered John a good friend. Going through school together we had occasion to share many of the same interests and activities. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.

I met John at an exercise facility and discovered that we had some common connections. John had lived in Japan and I had lived in Laos for many years. That connection led to many other common interests. Even after COVID caused the exercise class to stop, we stayed in contact with each other. I always enjoyed my conversations with John and benefitted from his book suggestions and general insights about the environment and health concerns.
My condolences to the family. My connections to John have been always been special to me.

Carol, I will always remember the adventures we had in Costa Rica. Remember the army ants? And hugging the tree that was carved so much? My condolences to your family and you .

I was a student of Dr. Ducat in the late nineties, at LCC. I took a class with him and was impressed by his manner of teaching and molding his students, it made me sign up for several classes with him. He was a no nonsense educator. I talk about him often as it relate to his teaching. One of Dr. Ducat’s favorite sayings was that “The rich get richer and the poor get children”. Just about a month ago I told some friends about that said saying – no kidding!
Thanks to Dr. Ducat I went ahead and completed a Master’s degree as he believed in me and encouraged me. I remain forever grateful for his support to this day. May he rest in eternal peace!
