John L. Brubaker
John Leslie Brubaker passed away February 14, 2023 at the age of 64.
He was a devoted and loving husband to his spouse of 42 years, Patricia (McAvoy) Brubaker, as well as the best father to daughters Shawna (Jon Fellows) and Tricia. John was lovingly known as “Tool-man” due to his ability to be able to fix anything, anytime. John had a huge heart and an even larger laugh. Those who had a chance to meet him, remember his sarcastic charm and overall devotion to all the ladies in his life. Some of John’s hobbies include reading owner’s manuals on various DIY projects, completing his GI Joe collection and playing jokes on his family. John owned a successful jewelry store and in his retirement he enjoyed mowing the grounds of Burchfield Park with his longtime friend.
Aside from being survived by his wife and daughters, John leaves behind his two beloved granddaughters, Isabella and Elizabeth Fellows, grandcats Samwise and Saffron, as well as his reluctant cat, Oreo.
Per his request, his cremation has taken place and a small visitation service will take place on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, 2121 Cedar St., Holt, MI 48842. The family asks that any donations made in John’s honor go towards the Mary-Free Bed Orthotics & Prosthetics, 200 N. Homer St. A, Lansing, MI, 48912, so others can walk again like him.

February 15, 2023 at 9:18 pmMy heart is breaking for this kind gentle man. He and I had great fun together and as so many have said, his laugh was infectious. What a character! God’s speed, my friend. May our Lord wrap His arms around John’s family and we, his Holt
Rams of 1976.

February 16, 2023 at 10:44 amPapa John was a kind, loving, and generous soul. I will always be grateful for his presence in my life, and for the fact that I was included as one of his ‘girls’. Godspeed Papa.

February 16, 2023 at 1:23 pmI knew both John & Pat, I knew his father also, we had a lot of Great Times when he was in the Jewelry business, and taken trips to Troy, Mi. to buy different things at the Advance Building. I lost track of John when he retired out of the business, but he became a Very Good Teacher,
Very Lucky Students to have him as a Teacher—He will be missed–God has a place for him,
and his Good Personality——

February 16, 2023 at 1:33 pmJohn and I laughed a lot during our appointments together-he had the best laugh! He was funny, very kind and just the right amount of sarcastic. Between the silly pet stories and life observations his main focus was always the lovely women in his life-Pat, Shawna, Tricia and his granddaughters. He loved you all so much and I could tell that he delighted in the time he spent with his girls. He always seemed so proud of his family and I am tremendously sorry for your loss. I will miss him too.

February 16, 2023 at 3:53 pmI’ll consider it an act of God that Pat prompted me to talk with John last month. We’ve all been friends and worked together from many years back. It had just been too long since we’d picked up the phone.

February 21, 2023 at 1:28 pmMy heart goes out to you all for your loss. We go back many years and became friends in a short amount of time at the park. John would always take the time to listen and offer his wise advice or share and idea to improve on something at the park. It didn’t matter if it was personal troubles or work-related, he was always there to help. We have some great memories, loads of laughs, and sometimes deep talks. I’ll miss you my old friend and I’ll never forget the times we shared together.

February 23, 2023 at 11:05 amSharon and I are sisters, we are MSU GreenCoats who serve at numerous events across the campus and briefly this gentle man appeared in our lives on several occasions to share, laugh, inspire and help us with our assignment however small or great. We believe what scriptures says regarding one “delighting his or herself in the Lord; and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Mr. John Brubaker did this, one of his desires was to serve, he did this with Sharon and I in whatever way possible as we worked with him at MSU Basketball events, WOW, how blessed we both were to know him, witness his kindness and him speaking about his love for his family and grandchildren.
