John A. Bischoff

Lansing, Michigan.

John Albert Bischoff, age 89, passed away October 26, 2016. He was born October 17, 1927, in Detroit, MI, to the late Carl Sr. and Mildred Bischoff.

 

John graduated from Eastern High School in 1945 and went on to serve in the Merchant Marines from 1945-47. John was a member of the Eagles, Elks, and Valley Farms Baptist Church. He retired from the Board of Water and Light after 39 years, and proudly spent 8 years as “Louie The Lighting Bug.”

 

John was a great “hugger,” handyman, and dancer. He loved spending time at his cottage at Long Lake, going cruising, and taking trips to Israel and Egypt.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jean F. Bischoff; children, Vicki (Ron) Redman, Kelly Pitcher, Jim J. (Joyce) Bischoff, Marian Bischoff; sister, Barbara Shields; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott A. Bischoff; sister, Kathleen Maxfelt; and brother, Carl Bischoff, Jr.

 

A heartfelt thank you to Leslie Sulskis, a special nurse at Sparrow Hospital; Fairview Grand Adult Foster Care, where John was allowed to die in peace and dignity; and to Compassus Hospice for their care.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016, at Valley Farms Baptist Church, 1141 E. State St., Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Grand AFC, 11656 S. Hartel Rd., Grand Ledge, MI 48837 or Compassus Hospice, 801 S. Waverly Rd., Suite 200.
