Joan Kathryn Martin


Holt, Michigan

Born March 16, 1929, in Rockford, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the age of 95.

Surviving are her son, David Martin; grandchildren, David (Mandi) Meyen and Kathryn Meyen along with her two great-grandchildren, Jack and Henry Meyen.

Joan was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Alice (Daniels) and Swan Peterson; husband, Walter “Walt” Martin; her daughter, Diane Meyen; and her son-in-law, Larry Meyen.

She was a graduate of East Rockford High School, Class of 1946 and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1950. Joan taught in the Rockford, Illinois school district for a number of years before raising her children. She enjoyed antiquing, cooking, golfing, dancing, traveling, and covered bridges. She was also part of the Naperville Art Associates.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, 2121 N. Cedar St., Holt. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service starts at Noon. Interment will take place at Naperville Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Memorial contributions, in loving memory of Joan, may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Mrs Joan was a very loved person with great character, personality and experience . Joan always gave great advice and treated all her caregivers as family!! She will be greatly missed! Joan I hope you are rejoicing with all of your angels up there !! You will forever be in my heart and thoughts!!

Miss Joan left an impression on anyone she ever met, I am so grateful and blessed to have gotten to know her with working for her and listening to her many cherished memories she shared with me..she lived a long and memorable life and will forever be loved and memories with her will be cherished forever…love you Miss Joan
