James D. “Jim” Weeks

James “Jim” Weeks, 65, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on May 29, 2026.

Jim was born on March 28, 1961, in Lansing to Jan (Smith) Gwilt and Don Weeks.

He is survived by his daughter, Tara Palanati; his mother, Jan Gwilt; and his siblings, Fred (Holly) Weeks, Ken Weeks, Carolyn Hogeland, Karen Weeks, Karl (Patricia) Comstock, Lorraine Comstock, Brenda Lee, Kathy Comstock, and Wayne (Jeanie) Weeks, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Don and Patricia Weeks; his stepfather, Jack Gwilt; his maternal grandparents, Robert and May Arlene Smith; and his aunt, Sharon Cundiff.

Jim had a kind heart, an unforgettable laugh, and never missed an opportunity for a dad joke. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and had a way of making people feel like friends. Whether he was checking in on someone who was having a hard time or sharing a story that made everyone laugh, he genuinely cared about the people around him.

Over the years, Jim held many different jobs and was always up for a new adventure. He spent a summer working on Mackinac Island at the Hotel Iroquois, drove a cab, delivered pizzas and photo packages, worked at a gas station, and cooked in the family-owned cafeteria. Eventually, he found his home at Dean Transportation, where he built lasting friendships and found work he truly enjoyed. Later in his career, he helped support Dean’s Traverse City location, combining his love of the road with the chance to meet new people and see more of the state.

Outside of work, Jim enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, gaming, baseball, and trying new restaurants. He was a devoted Michigan State fan whose wardrobe rarely lacked green and white, and whose ringtone proudly played the MSU fight song. He loved good food, good conversation, and finding a reason to laugh.

More than anything, Jim valued the people in his life. He made friends wherever he went and left behind countless stories, laughs, and memories. Those who knew him will remember his kindness, his sense of humor, and the way he could brighten a room simply by being himself.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. If you’d like to honor his memory, donations may be made to Special Olympics Michigan, serving Eaton and Ingham counties

So sorry to hear this, we met him through your grandmother and grandfather Gwilt, who we cherish in our hearts. Then we worked with him at Dean’s. He was a great man and every time we saw him, he greeted us with a smile. May God bless your family through this time and after. Dale and Patty Fryover

Jim was an awesome, caring buddy. When I was younger and sick, the pain was so bad I’d just lay on the cold hardwood floor. Jim would sit with me, telling me not to cry ‘cause it’d make my face puffy, give me a headache, and make my eyes red. He could always make me laugh. Rest in peace, Jim.
