Jerry Raymond Simpson
The family of Jerry Raymond Simpson of Lansing, MI, is greatly saddened to announce his passing on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at home in Lansing.
Jerry was 89. He was born in Lansing to the late Alfred and Marion (Loomis) Simpson. A light has gone out, but we’ll remember him always.
Jerry lived most of his life in the Lansing area. He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School, attended Lansing Business University and Lansing Community College. Jerry was a Data Systems Manager at Michigan Department of Social Services (now called Health & Human Services) and retired after 24 years of service.
In his youth, before the tragic loss of his right hand, Jerry played baseball and basketball with joy and dedication. As an adult he enjoyed bowling and golf. Despite several tragedies Jerry purposefully rebounded, bested his grief and was always an inspiration to his family and many friends. In 1953 Jerry married Yvonne Brown. Jerry and Yvonne brought seven children into the world. For them, family was everything. Their home was always a bustling place of joy. Several years after Yvonne’s untimely passing Jerry married Carol Sanders. Both over 50, Jerry and Carol lived a full mature life but always included their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends.
Jerry was predeceased by his first wife, Yvonne Brown; second wife, Carol Sanders; daughter, Susan; sons, Brian and Kurt; grandson, Matthew; and sister, Joyce Simpson Brilinski.
Jerry is survived by sons: Scott (Linda) of Tucson, AZ, Tim (Annette) of Charlotte, Tracy (Julie) of Holt, Jerry II (Julie) of Independence, KY; stepchildren: Greg Curtis of Medina, OH, W. Scott and Mary Frances Curtis of Grove City, OH, Elizabeth Curtis Thomas of Silver Lake, OH, and Julie and Matthew Dudones of Stow, OH; grandchildren: Chad (Kristen), Brian, Nichole (Austin) Wilson, Jerry III (Ada), Heidi (Tom) Pearson, Jenna Redman; great-grandchildren: Wyatt Simpson, Adie Simpson, Jayden Simpson, Liam Simpson, Farah Wilson, Isabel Wilson, Ella Redman, Brody Redman, Anna Pearson and Emma Pearson; brother: Calvin Simpson; step-grandchildren: Joshua Breeding, Travis Large, Jack, Alex, and Kevin Curtis; Amanda (James) Woo and Brock Curtis Andrew Thomas; Laura (Caleb) Lichty, and Bethany Dudones; and step-great-grandchild, Madison Large. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Friday, October 18th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Holt.

October 15, 2024 at 3:49 pmUncle Jerry and Aunt Yvonne were like second parents to me. We have great memories of camping together at Timber shores in Upper Michigan. We will always be thankful to them for hosting our wedding reception at their home. They took me in when I became Ill in Arizona and I lived with them until my parents could move back to Michigan. I will always miss them both terribly. Cathie Edgeworth
