I worked with Jerry in the General Motors Design Truck Studio from about 1975 to 1992, where Jerry was a designer. We had responsibility for the exterior appearance for all light, medium, and heavy duty trucks, as well as the GMC motor home and the RTS coach. Our team consisted of designers, clay modelers, and engineers.
One day word came down that the Color Studio was on fire and we were to evacuate. We had three heavy duty trucks on display in the Truck Studio with full tanks of fuel. We opened the door to the Ponderosa outside viewing area so Jerry, with his former experience as a truck driver, could start the trucks up and drive them out to safety.
Another day Jerry was driving a bunch of us in a RTS Coach around the General Motors Technical Center where we worked. It was lunch time and a security guard pulled us over. He thought we were a load of people lost in the Tech Center. Jerry explained that we were just out for a ride on a Summer day.
