Jennell Kay Townsend
Jennell was born November 6, 1936 in Lansing, Michigan, and passed away April 1, 2025, at the age of 88 at her home. Jennell was mostly raised by her beloved grandparents, Hattie and Wilbur Shaver. She graduated from Everett High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University and was a long-time teacher at Everett High School in Lansing. Jennell lived a life of service for the Lord, volunteering at Teen Challenge, soup kitchens and service projects, mentoring women, and directing the Senior Adults Ministries at First Assembly of God. Jennell enjoyed gardening, reading, quilting, and a really wide variety of crafts! But what was most important to Jennell was her family. That she was blessed with the best husband in the world was what she proclaimed often. She loved fiercely and gave unconditional love and support to us all.
Surviving are: her husband of 70 years, David Townsend; children, Jill (Dan) Goucher, Diane (Terry) Ososkie, and Jack Townsend; grandchildren, Jason, Bethany, Laura, Steven, Jeffrey, Kevin, Jamie, and Carolyn; 12 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Jack Bullen. She was preceded in death by her infant son, David.
Jennell’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2025, at Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 3448 Hagadorn Rd., Okemos, with interment to follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Thursday.

April 14, 2025 at 5:14 pmUncle Dave,
Tony and I are so very sorry for your loss. You and Aunt Jennell were always a beacon of light in our family. We are so glad that you don’t have to grieve her loss without hope. I am studying the book of Revelation and last week were reminded that heaven is a place, where all tears will be wipped away, there will be no dying, crying, pain–and no more good byes. –What a glorious reminder that she is enjoying even today –not walking by faith but by sight–as she sits at the feet of Jesus and basks in his light. Love and prayers
