Jean M. “Jeannie” Houpt

Age 71, of Lansing passed away January 9, 2024. She was born June 24, 1952 in New York, New York to the late Michael G. and Ruth A. (Smith) Carney.

Jeannie was raised in the Bronx, and during high school she worked for Hearst Publishing in Manhattan. In 1969, at age 16, Jeannie told her parents she was going to spend the weekend with friends, the truth was she went to the original Woodstock Music Festival in Bethel, New York! After high school, Jeannie moved to the Lansing area and began a 30 + year career at MSU, working as an administrative assistant at the physical plant. Jeannie was proud to be part of the MSU community, loved MSU sports (especially football), and was so proud to see her daughter Paige graduate from MSU (Go Green!). She enjoyed cooking for others and loved to travel. Jeannie had a heart of gold, she loved unconditionally, generous to a fault, and always saw the best in others. She had the best smile and lit up any room she entered. She was the best mom, sister, friend, and was so looking forward to being a grandma, and she will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Jeannie is survived by her beloved daughter Paige (Matt) Twomley; sisters: Michelle (Craig) Greilick, and Christine (David) Swain; nieces and nephews: Michael (Heather) Swain, Troy Swain, Trisha Kondrat, Jessica (Chris) Peterson, and Heather (Elijah) Ayers; former spouse Don Houpt, special friend Jim Anderson; and her granddogs: Luna and Callie.
