Janet A. Luoma

Janet Arlene Luoma of Lansing joined her beloved husband Robert in a heavenly reunion on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the age of 82.

Janet is survived by children, Robert (Emily) Luoma II of Colleyville, TX, Pamela Cain of Fort Laramie, WY, Gretchen Adracie of Durham, NC, and Sandy (David) Miller of Lawton, MI; grandchildren Jessica Luoma, Robert P. Luoma III, Andrew Sine, Elizabeth Sine, Kristen Sine, Adrianna Parent, Rachel Duchene, Grace Kaufer and Sophie Miller; great-grandchildren Sturgill Dawson & Brontẽ Luoma; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Elma Christian of Lansing, and brother Dennis Christian of Mooresburg, TN.

Janet was born on January 11, 1941, in Lansing, Michigan.  She was a graduate from Lansing Eastern High School. She married Robert in 1958. Their early years together were focused on raising their family and building an independent business and their home was the focal point for many family holiday gatherings.  The cottage at Houghton Lake they built with other family members created a lot of memorable, fun times together.  After setting the kids out on their own paths, Bob and Janet enjoyed travelling to many places including trips in Bob’s beautifully renovated bus. Over the course of Janet’s life, she developed many deep and lasting relationships with family and friends to the point they considered her to be a second mom. Janet was an avid collector.  Janet started a long career as a bookkeeper for Irene Savoyat, who became one of her dearest friends, at Creative Wellness in 1995 until her declining health made it impossible to continue. We, Janet’s children, send special thanks and appreciation to her good friends and caregivers Linda Trevino & Roxanne Ryan.

At Janet’s request, there will be no funeral service.  The family will have an interment ceremony, for both Janet and Bob’s urns, at the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1st, 2024.  A gathering for family and friends will follow the interment at the VFW Post #671, 12250 Old US 27, DeWitt, MI 48820. Please send donations to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in memory of Janet.  The family would also like to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Hospice House for their exceptional care and dedication to Janet in her final days.

My name is Siporah Winsheimer, and Janet’s grandson, Robert Paul Luoma III and I, are the parents of Bronte Sanna Janet Luoma. Bronte is Janet’s great-granddaughter. I have had the pleasure of meeting Janet multiple times on trips to Michigan. She is a great woman. She was so sweet but not afraid to tell you like it is. Honest and compassionate. Caring and generous. Kind to open her home and dining table to long talks and laughs while visiting. Janet made an impact on my life and I truly enjoyed my time with her. She is greatly appreciated and she will forever be remembered in our lives.

I can only imagine your heavenly reunion with your husband. I believe it to be jaw dropping, amazing, and indescribable and with lots of happy tears!! Know you are loved and will be missed.

We love you Gramma Janet!!

Warmly, kindly, and sincerely,
Siporah
