Janet Eleanor Goodell Haley “Jamie”

Congratulations, mom, on your graduation to Heavenly Citizenship on Friday, December 15, 2017!  You have victoriously completed your earthly assignment and heard our Father God say, “Well done, My beloved daughter, Jamie!”  Mom, truly you can declare the truth of 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith.”  We celebrate your HOME-GOING and can only imagine the joy of reunion with family and friends together again FOREVER and all because of the wonderful Savior Jesus Christ.

Jamie invested her life in people, always giving generously of her time, energy and abundant gifts of kindness.  Many people have been recipients of and treasured her hand-written notes, letters, and cards of encouragement and comfort arriving at just the right moment.  She truly changed the atmosphere when she entered a room, and always had a way of making others feel welcomed and valued.  Her enthusiasm for life was contagious!  She never passed up an opportunity to celebrate someone’s achievement, all things Spartan, her love of dogs and planting trees at beautiful Glen Lake; we’ll always remember Winston Churchill cigar gatherings and above all her celebrating the life transforming Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!  Jamie received the free gift of God’s love by accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord in 1964.  It is THE BEST decision anyone can make!

Jamie was a servant leader.  She was Co-Founder of the Mildred B. Erickson Friends Society/Scholarships for Returning Students.  She played several important roles in the MSU Alumni Association Kaleidoscope.  For her caring leadership throughout a lifetime of service to MSU, she received the 1995 Michigan State Alumni Service Award.  She has been a key volunteer in many programs in the Greater Lansing area.  At the request of three Michigan Governors she served as secretary of the Ingham County Jury Board.  She was a member of the Lansing Symphony, Lansing Junior League, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni.  Above all she honored her husband, Gil, by serving as chairperson for Women’s Programs offered at the Michigan Automobile Dealers Association annual conventions for 35 years at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island!  She wore many “hats” throughout her lifetime, and our hats are off to her!

Mom began her earthly journey the year women got the vote, arriving October 25, 1920.  She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert L. Haley, her parents Zelin and Ruth Goodell, and her brother John Goodell.   She leaves behind with hearts full of gratitude her two daughters, Jamie Haley McGlone (“son-in-grace” Fred), Susan Haley; two granddaughters, Elizabeth McGlone and Rachel Hedin (Glenn); nieces Mary Lou Terrien and Irene Goodell Bagby (Sumner); nephew George Goodell; 5 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; plus too many friends to count.  A special thank you and blessing to the Residential Home Hospice nurses and aides.

Visitation will be held at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 4-7 p.m.

A celebration of life memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at River Terrace Church, 1509 River Terrace Drive, East Lansing.

A Glen Lake, Leelanau County, memorial service will be scheduled in July 2018.

Haley Family,
Please accept our deepest sympathy and heart felt condolences. We have truly lost a saint in our community, as her contributions have created an unmatched legacy of kindness, compassion and commitment to others. We were blessed through our many social events with the Capitol Club and MSU to have enjoyed the hospitality of family and friends, as she always made us proud and fortunate to know her. Few in our community had her touch of class and humility. Her life was a lesson for all to emulate. She set the standard for caring and giving.
Thank you for sharing her with us.
John and Pat Greenslit, Lansing.

You and your family are in my heart and mind. My condolences on the passing of Jamie, one of the loveliest people I encountered during my time at MSU.
