He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur R. Buchanan d.1981 & Marjorie L. Foster d.2011, and a brother Roy A. Buchanan d. 2009. Surviving are his sisters: Betty Bailey of Craigsville, WV & Lucina or Luci Buchanan of Lansing, MI, 3 nephews & 1 great niece. Also surviving are his wife, Rosemary (Foland) Buchanan of Lansing, MI & stepchildren Stephanie Pierre, Frederick Staelens, Tanya Baptiste, 5 grandsons & 1 granddaughter, all of Lansing, MI.

There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
