James Edwin Earegood “Jim”

Our beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many passed away on October 17, 2022, at the age of 65.

James was born in Lansing, MI, on October 24, 1956, to Arlo and Myrna Earegood. He remained a lifelong resident.

James was preceded in death by his father, Arlo, in 2017, and his beloved brother, Steven, in 2018.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Myrna; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Mitch Frankovich; sister, Teresa Anderson; half-sister, Vicki (Jack) Grulke; sister-in-law, Capi Earegood; and his many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Honorary thank you to nephew Brandon Earegood who served faithfully as his personal care attendant and caretaker up to the very end.

Jim leaves his legacy in the music industry not just in Michigan, but throughout the U.S. – a career spanning 40-plus years. His love for music developed at a young age, first with guitar lessons, then playing the drums in the basement. He also played the walls, tables, chairs, floor, and dashboards of cars. If he didn’t have his drum sticks in his hands he just used his hands instead, keeping the beat wherever he went!

During his years at Gardner Jr. High School, he made friendships that lasted throughout his life. It was during this time that he joined his first band called “Showdown.” Shout out to “Brother Joe Vermetti.” Jim then crossed over to being a sound and lightboard technician. Jim’s passion and talent grew into creating quality sound for all genres across the music industry.

Jim loved organizing family gatherings and was the master chef and “king of the grill.” He enjoyed being with his nieces and nephews and their children, and having family around him.

A special thank you to his boss, Mark Peterson, and the crew at Sound EFX Production for giving Jim the opportunity to continue working during the lowest point in his life, giving him the grace to give his all and keep his dignity to the end.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Mason (Aurelius Township), Michigan.

If you wish to make a donation in Jim’s honor, you can send it to: Local Church Bible Publishers, 1902 E. Cavanaugh Rd., Lansing, MI  48910.

Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

It is with great sadness to hear of Jim’s passing. I grew up being neighbors with the Earegood’s, sure loved that family. So many fond memories of Jim. He has to be the funniest guy ever, loved his unusual wit!! He will surely be missed by many. Praying for the Lord to comfort and give his family and friends peace that surpasses all understanding like only He can do. I won’t say goodbye Jim, “but see you later” until we see each other again in our heavenly home. Rest in Peace, friend.

This man has mentored more audio engineers in his lifetime than anyone could calculate. I appreciate his life lessons, comedy and satire as well as his friendship. I too am a student of Audio from Jim, he taught me “Old School” and it has taken me places I could never have imagined around the world.

Jim was an awesome guy to work live shows with. As a supervisor, it was always a plus to see Jim assigned as the audio engineer for gigs at MSU venues. A commanding knowledge of sound re-enforcement combined with a personable way of dealing with various, sometimes touchy, picky and downright cranky performers made him a joy to have on a call. On behalf of the brothers and sisters of Local 274, the stagehands union we offer condolences and blessings to Jims family and friends.
We will surely miss him!

Jim was the guy you saw at the gig that made you think today was going to be a good day. He was not the stereo typical grumpy sound guy, he was incredibly accommodating and a friend to so many musicians. I remember seeing his name on the liner notes of many bands cds simply “Thanks to Jim the Sound guy”. That’s pretty cool that he made an impact on so many in the industry. I’m going to miss this man a ton. Godspeed, Buddy see you on the other side.

There was a very funny fellow named Jim,
Anyone who knew him surely loved him,
For he always made you smile,
Would go the extra mile,
What will we all do without him?!
Sorry, I had to! …. He taught me every Limerick ever wrote!
Love you my friend, Rest in Peace
