Irene H. McKenna
Irene Helen (Stier) McKenna, age 98, went home to be with her Lord on May 23, 2025. She was born on July 23, 1926, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Henry and Sophie (Flack) Stier. She married Warren E. McKenna on November 9, 1946. While raising 5 children, she entered college and graduated from MSU with a BA and MA in English. Ms. McKenna spent 23 years passing on her love of learning to students in Lansing high schools. One student said, “She was tough, but inspired and challenged me as no other teacher had ever done.” She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Harold Stier; and her grandson, Michael Hunter. Her wit and wisdom will be missed by those who knew her, including her sister (Betty Marx); 4 sons, Thomas (Astrid) McKenna, Daniel (Eunshil) McKenna, James McKenna, and David McKenna; daughter, Peggy (Leonard) Hunter; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. We will celebrate the life of Irene at 10:00a.m., Saturday, May 31st at Estes-Leadley Funeral Home, 325 W Washtenaw St, Lansing, MI 48933. Visitation with family will be Saturday 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greater Lansing Food Bank , PO Box 16224, Lansing, MI 48901.

May 30, 2025 at 10:34 pmI am sorry to learn of the passing of your mother. She was a faithful member of. Grace Lutheran Church and I remember seeing her working on the patio making it look nice. Pulling weeds, pruning shrubs, etc.
