Howard “Bill” Brighton

Howard “Bill” Brighton of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, February 20th.

Bill was born August 22, 1925 in Jackson, Michigan to Howard and Eva Brighton. He and his wife, Patricia Ann, enjoyed nearly 74 years of marriage and together raised four children. He was a proud veteran, having served in both World War II and the Korean War. Bill retired from Michigan State University in 1989 but continued to work in other fields.

He will be missed dearly by his wife and their children, Cheryl (Wayne) Goss, Susan (Joel) Hekler, Lori (Dave) Burr, and Todd (Wendy) Brighton; his grandchildren, Kristin Yarnell, David (Jessica) Goss, Katy (Neil) Sheridan, Kelly Hekler, Drew Hekler, Bryan Burr, Brittany (Sush) Shidham, Grace Ann Burr, Sedona Brighton, Cameron Brighton and Preston Brighton; and his great-grandchildren Lilly and Logan Yarnell, Emersyn and Jonathan Sheridan, and Kayden, Everett, Landon, and Clark Shidham.

Bill had many passions including his family, his koi pond, and his classic cars. He loved lifelong learning, writing, talking with people, and always said that he never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack Brighton.

A private funeral was held at Estes-Leadley Funeral Home in Holt/Delhi Chapel. A celebration of life will be held in July. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted at Hospice of Lansing Stoneleigh Residence, Lansing, Michigan.

We are so sorry to hear of Howard’s passing. We enjoyed our conversations with him. I will miss his bag of popcorn as we left the house. He had so much to share and knowledge of so many areas . Our thoughts and prayers are with Pat and the family.

He walked me down the aisle and we were married on the property. He watched the kids graduate from high school and one from college. He sat in his chair on the front porch and had so many conversations whether about his life or how to become a better person. Cameron has his smile, that big big smile. He was always positive and loved working on the property. Taught my kids how to fish. We will miss you Ging. Forever in our hearts. Wendy
