Helen L. Peterson

Age 92, of Holt, MI, passed away December 30, 2014. She was born February 16, 1922, in Flint, MI, the daughter of the late William and Mary Hesling.

Helen graduated from Flint Central High School in 1938. Soon after graduation she met Gilbert Peterson and the rest was history. She worked for the Flint Public Schools for a number of years and she also worked as a secretary in Flint and Alpena. After Gilbert retired, they moved to Grand Lake in Presque Isle, MI. She enjoyed sewing and cooking Sunday dinners for her family. She loved living on the lake and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her life was her family. Gilbert and Helen spent 52 wonderful years together before his death in 1993.

She is survived by her children, Judith (Charley) Rosebush, Glenda Beatty, Janet (Jerry) Simpson and Gilbert Peterson; 12 grandchildren, Nancy, Jan, Susan, Zoe, Jamie, Judy, Jill, Ashli, Philip, Gilbert, Graham and Ian; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, William Hesling of New York and James Hesling of Florida; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gilbert; sisters, Dorothy Harris and Minnie Buytas; and son-in-law, James Beatty.

A memorial service celebrating Helen’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Grand Lake Community Chapel  in Presque Isle, MI.
