Helen E. Johnson

Age 97, of Lansing, MI, passed away April 24, 2018.  She was born August 12, 1920, in Lansing.  Helen graduated from Lansing Central High School in 1939.  She sewed automobile interiors for Fisher Body for over 30 years, retiring in 1976, and was a member of UAW Local #602.  She was a member of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was active with the mission society and volunteered at the school library.  Helen was also a valuable member of the Lansing Liederkranz Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; her parents, Emil and Emma Bartz; and her sister, Wanda Franks.  Surviving are:  son, Allan (Cary) Johnson; 3 grandchildren, Tammy (Anthony) Atkinson, Roxanne (Duane) Nation, and Callan Johnson; 3 great-grandchildren, Baile Drew, Tyler Nation, and Cain Johnson; former daughter-in-law, Kathy Tibbetts; nieces, Judy King, Janice Chase, and Kay Tews; and nephews, Ray Franks and Don (Yvette) Ruddy.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Capitol Ave., Lansing, with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  Her family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran School Library in memory of Helen Johnson.
