Glen Owen Gray

Our person, Glen Owen Gray, passed into paradise Friday, October 1, 2021. A husband, a father, a grandfather, a son, a brother, a friend, a mentor, a solid citizen. He was something significant to many but to his immediate family, he was the foundation to our world.

The 10th child of Tracy and Neva Gray, the husband of 38 years to Betty R. Gray, the father to Dennis (Connie) Gray, K Elizabeth Gray, Peggy (Ken) Gray-Jones and Janet (David) Gray-Moore, the step-father to Kathleen (Ben) Jacobs, Karen (Mark) Ewing, the grandfather to Jackie, Daniel, Lauren, Christiane, Madison, Jennah, Julian, Jesse, Shelley-Beth, Andrew, Dell, Elliott, Alex, Jordan, Anita, Jerry, Brent, Bo and Blake, and the great grandfather to Ryan, Alice, Cole, Tysen, Trinity, Maddox, Genevieve, Rosalie, Colin, Ella, Bryce, Kayla, Jake, Leaven and Karlee.

He was a retiree from the Michigan Department of Transportation. He was a fixer of plumbing, electrical, toys, bikes, used furniture, a builder of home additions, M&M dispensers and rubber band guns, a basement digger, a craftsman of organization. He was a teacher of his self-acquired skills to anyone who needed help and knowledge in a home improvement project. He was a teller of stories and jokes. With the characteristic slight upward lift of one side of his mouth, you could feel the crescendo of his twisted humor building. He loved a good card game; He was usually at the center of a good party. He loved to travel and led his family on many excursions in Michigan and across the country, where he helped create great memories and was the makings for many stories. By the time his kids aged out of family vacations, they knew why the Michigan public highway restrooms were named as they were, and were introduced to the bridges and culverts he had helped design.

He was beat to life’s finish line by his parents, his older siblings Garnet, Dale, Gale, Geraldine, Edwin, Tracey, Gwendolyn, Bonnie, and Dwain, son-in-law Ben, and prematurely by his granddaughters Shelly-Beth, Jordan, and Anita whom he grieved greatly. Our person was so loved and admired and will be greatly missed.

There will be a graveside service held 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2021, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 W. Grand River Ave., Lansing MI 48906. Visitation for family and friends will be 10:00 a.m.to 12:00 p.m. Friday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel 325 W. Washtenaw St, Lansing, MI 48933. Memorial donations may be made to Sparrow Hospice Services 1210 W. Saginaw St., Lansing, MI 48915.

I remember all the wonderful times we had together when we were younger, pretending to be asleep so we could spend the night at each others house; the many reunions and Christmas party’s with the Gray family’s. Many lunches that we got together for recently will be cherished. What wonderful memories we have. My heart hurts with yours as we say goodbye to Uncle Glen. Prayers and hugs to you all. <3

Dearest Janet,
You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope all the wonderful memories you shared as a family flood your mind. Your sister wrote an obit that I think all of us would be proud to have. Im sure your dad is dancing and whooping it up with Jordan. Hugs and love, Bobbi

His passing is felt all the way up in Grand Rapids. His wisdom and knowledge will be sorely missed. He was Ancestry.com for all of us with his in depth research at a time it took more than a click to find anything.
I remember reunions at Lake Lansing, and being shy around his cute daughters.
He is greatly admired and missed even more.
Prayers for the entire family.

Rest assured, my dad, Corky, is showing Uncle Glen,(Beano), all around Heaven. At least this
high probability makes me feel less lost. I had not seen Uncle Glen very often in recent years but I always have had a special place for him in my heart. I truly love him. Rest assured he is in a better place with Jesus and is in no more pain. We will see his smiling face again. I Love You, Linda (Heiser) Gibbs
