Gladys Askew
Age 94, of Lansing, passed away August 31, 2011. She was born December 14, 1916, in Muskegon. Gladys was a member of Potter Park United Methodist Church, Calvary United Methodist Church and Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, and was active in the Joy Circle and the Bible study. She worked as a bookkeeper for several automobile dealerships, including Story Olds and Sawyers Pontiac.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Askew; brother, Kenneth Oliver; sister-in-law, Margaret Allen; and her parents, Edwin and Ada Oliver. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Denise Knechtges of Lansing; 2 grandchildren, Patrick and Laura Knechtges; sister-in-law, Ida Hobbs; nephews, Bruce (Karen) Oliver and Steve (Deidre) Oliver; and ex-son-in-law, Richard (Kathe) Knechtges.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor William Haggard officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Hope United Methodist Church in memory of Gladys Askew.
