Gerhard was born and baptized in Weissenfelde, Stadlbezirk Sichelberg, East Prussia (Poland). In November of 1944, his family fled East Prussia (because of the Russian invasion). The family travelled with two wagons and made their way into Germany and settled in Bremen. In November of 1956, Gerhard’s family were sponsored by his Uncle Bruno Komm and immigrated to the USA. They made their home in Lansing. Gerhard was confirmed at Emanuel First Ev. Lutheran Church on May 25, 1958. He graduated from Everett High School in 1962. Lutheran Church, he was a very active member and served as president of the congregation three times. He held many positions on the various boards and served as an usher throughout his life. After he retired, Gerhard started the “Holy Handymen”, a group of retired men that would volunteer their time and work around the church after they would meet for breakfast first. He enjoyed making Sauerkraut, Spätzle and Green Beans with Spätzle, passing his passion and recipes onto his friend, James Foster. He was also a Life-Time member of the Lansing Liederkranz Club for 54 years. He was President for several years and through his efforts (along with many members) he brought the Club back to life in the 70’s. He was also behind the efforts of saving the Club during the recent Covid pandemic. Brother in Law, Jerry (Dolly) Largent and Sister-in-Law, Charlene (Largent) (William) Bailey, Sister in-Law, Evelyn Largent, and many nieces and nephews. I will miss Gerhard the gentle man, a long time friend with a caring sole, always ready to lend a hand, with a smile, and a laugh about life, family, work, friends or politics. May God bless him & give him eternal peace.

I will look forward to seeing Gerhard again in heaven. He was a wonderful man and an example of a man that loved Christ with all his heart. I pray that Darlene will find comfort in our Savior’s promise of eternal life through Christ our LORD. Having lost my wife January 26, 2022 I know what Dais going through. I will keep her in my prayers.

Gerhard Ole friend, I will never forget you. We have been friends for 60+ years. We have had some Great Times. Grew up, married, each others best man and raised our families, retired and still best friends. I Love you ‘Brother’ Gerhard..

Gerhard is now home in heaven, enjoying the songs of saints and angels. Darlene and family, may our gracious God comfort you with the certain fact that he is there through the perfect life, sacrificial death, and triumphant resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He Is Risen, and so is Gerhard!
