Georgia L. Hibbs

The light in the eyes of Georgia Lewis had passed.  With our eyes, we can see a long life of happiness and hardship.  With our eyes, we can see a creative mind, and the love for the world around her.  With our eyes, we can see the strength of will and how she gave of herself, to her family and friends.  With our eyes, we can look at the wealth of memories our mother and father helped make for us, and say, “thank you, we love you.”  And last, with our eyes, they can continue to see, because so much of who our mother and father were, is with us.

Age 90, Georgia passed away at her home January 7, 2013.  She was born March 15, 1922, in Obion County, TN, to Charles and Lettie Wilson.  Georgia graduated from Lansing Central High School in June, 1941.  She married Cleo Hibbs, May 30, 1947; he preceded her in death in 1990.  She is also preceded in death by her son, Gregory Hibbs.  Surviving are:  her children, Michele Hibbs and Christine Waite, Steven (Katherine) Hibbs, Gary (Martha) Hibbs and Jeffrey (Karen) Hibbs; grandchildren, Andrea, Christopher, McKee, Ciardan, Kip, Mark, and many stepchildren.  Our thanks goes out to Hospice of Lansing, Inc., including Amy, Rachelle, Kris and Janet.  They sat beside our mother on her last journey.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with The Rev. Kris Abbey officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lansing, Inc. or Capital Area Humane Society in memory of Georgia Hibbs.

Dear Jeff, Gary and Steve — Please accept condolences on the loss of your mother from the mid-1970s Waverly cross country teams. Sorry that most of us are scattered near and far and could not make her funeral. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
