Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

“Boo, God’s love is wonderful because He has given you to me for a lifetime. A lifetime of happiness, A lifetime of standing by your side, A lifetime of knowing that you are the man I truly love. A lot has been shared, including most importantly our love of the Lord who has been faithful to us and enabled us to face anything that comes our way together. You are my lover, my best friend. Thank you for being by my side. I love you.”

Written to Wendell from Betty.

George Wendell, you were not only my father-in-law, but a true father in the Lord to me. Since I was 17, I’ve had the blessing of walking with Christ alongside you, learning from your steady faith, your kindness, and your unwavering love for Jesus.

Thank you for welcoming me into your family and for showing me, by example, what it means to live a life devoted to Christ. Your legacy lives on in all of us. I will carry your faith and love with me until we meet again in heaven.

I love you and will miss you deeply.

Jesus, You know what it is like to feel that God has abandoned you. You know pain and loss better than anyone else. Dear Holy Spirit be with Betty and let her feel your presence. We know that you are close to the brokenhearted and comfort those who mourn (Psalm 34:18). Help us to let you into our grief, to give you our anger and doubt. Jesus, pull us out of the void. In your name, Amen.
