Gary D. Skaggs

It is with deep sorrow that we announce our loving father passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2025, with family and loved ones. He was born on July 8, 1944.

Gary was raised in Lansing, Michigan. He retired as a welder from Motor Wheel in 1997 and moved to Cheboygan, Michigan, until moving to Cape Coral, Florida. He mostly enjoyed being outside, gardening, and working in the yard. He always loved a good bonfire. His humor and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Skaggs; his mother and father, Greta and Norman Skaggs; sister, Gae Joyce Skaggs; brothers, Richard and Michael Skaggs and his loving grandma, O’Letta Hanes.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Penfield) Skaggs; 3 children, Dawn Skaggs, Lisa Kelly, and Tammy Skaggs (Terry); 2 stepchildren, Charlie Scott and Amanda Newburn; 5 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, Michigan.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday, from 1:00 -3:00 p.m.  All friends and family welcome.
