Faris A. Howrani
Faris A. Howrani was an honored citizen in the city of Lansing for 56 years making a home with his wife, Carlene, of 60 years. Together they raised a family, all the while immersing themselves in roles to support schools, church, and various civic organizations. Faris died Friday, October 18, 2024, while in residence at Burcham Hills.
Faris’ life was a testament to the value of hard work, community support, and involvement in outreach church programs. Faris was a True Blue supporter, earning both degrees from the University of Michigan; undergraduate in literature followed by a law degree. He continued his education by achieving the Charter Life Underwriter (CLU) designation and by becoming a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) from which he launched a business career for over 60 years. He was a distinguished General Agent for the Midland Mutual Insurance Company having offices in Flint, Lansing, and Bay City/Midland. He specialized in estate and business planning, financial services, and corporate group insurance benefits. Faris strongly believed in the pledge of giving back to those in need; for years he was the leader of the annual Crop Walk, a supporter of the rescue mission, and a donor to the Episcopal Church Women’s Organization which supports health and education programming in international communities.
He loved challenges on the golf course, at the bridge table or with games of checkers, Scrabble, gin or his favorite groups at the poker table.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carlene; by his parents, Catherine and Adeeb Howrani of Flint, Michigan; and his brother, Ameen Howrani of Detroit. Faris was the proud father of his children: Alex, Adam, Adeeb, and Alicia Ferraro, and his granddaughter Gianna Ferraro. He is also survived by his brother, John Howrani of East Lansing; his sister, Mary Catherine Ashley of Grosse Pointe Park; sisters-in-law, Penny Sanghvi, Arlene Howrani, Terri Golowesky, and Terri Howrani; nieces and nephews; and beloved cousins. Friendships with high school buddies, clients, professional associates, and neighbors were many, and always regarded with pleasure and close to his heart. He was one to say, “If you surround yourself with wonderful people, the effect is incalculable.”
His place at the table was a gift to all as he shared his insights on investments, politics, and the economy. He gave out advice freely and his portfolio management received multiple accolades in the industry. Faris found most joy however, when he shared the values found in the teachings of Christianity. His membership in the Promise Keepers for almost 30 years was the ‘club’ he held in highest esteem.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a music fund in Faris’ honor to support the continued development of the church choir at St. David’s. A memorial service will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 1519 Elmwood Road, Lansing, MI 48917, on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon in the Great Hall. The family will be present to greet friends and family at 10:00 AM.
Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

November 4, 2024 at 3:24 pmFaris was one of the kindest people I had the privilege of knowing.. He cared greatly for his friends, clients, colleagues…and most importantly, his family. He relied on his faith to guide him, and was an active member of St. David’s. May he rest in peace and perhaps connected with his believed spouse, Carlene.
