Eugene Rathbun
Eugene Paul Rathbun, 88, of Lansing Michigan entered Heaven on March 2, 2025.
On July 14, 1936, Eugene (affectionately known as Gene) was born to Charles and Bernice Rathbun. Gene embodied the true spirit of service and was known in his community for his boundless ambition and unwavering generosity. He graduated from Okemos High School in 1954 and served in the Michigan National Guard for 7 years. During this time, Gene met the love of his life, Lenora, and the two were married on September 7, 1957.
Gene was a dedicated leader who served on the boards of multiple organizations throughout his life, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Faith Church, and Lansing Youth for Christ, where he contributed his time and expertise to make a meaningful impact. Gene was a passionate collector of antique clocks and had an impressive collection of diecast model cars, which he proudly displayed throughout his home.
From 1966 to 1989, Gene dedicated himself to Rathbun Insurance, helping to instill the belief that ‘Being There Matters Most’. He cared deeply about people, often sitting with customers at their kitchen tables when their children turned 16, guiding them on how to best protect their families. For nearly a decade, he worked alongside his son, Paul, passing down his knowledge and unwavering commitment to the community. Today, his grandson, Ben, carries that legacy forward as the third generation, ensuring Gene and his brothers’ legacy lives on.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bernice Rathbun, his sons, Paul and Jim Rathbun, and his brothers, James and Jack Rathbun.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Lenora; his daughter, Cindy (Dirk) Case; his daughters-in-law, Cat (Paul) Rathbun and Rachel (Jim) Rathbun. He was a proud grandfather to Joshua (Natalie} Case, Amanda (Trent} Wilson, Ben Rathbun, Sam (Maggie) Rathbun, Alyssa Rathbun, James (Ashleigh) Rathbun, Jeremiah Rathbun, and Shalyn Rathbun. Gene was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Naomi and Annelise Wilson, Josie and Julian Case, and Nora Rathbun. His family will remember him for his sense of humor, invaluable life lessons, and love for Christ.
A celebration of Gene’s life will take place on March 10, 2025, at Faith Church, 2300 Lake Lansing Road, at 1:00 PM. The family will welcome visitors from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Lansing Youth For Christ, P.O. Box 80555, Lansing, MI 48908.

March 5, 2025 at 6:14 pmI have so many fond memories of Gene. He was the first person to welcome us to Faith Church and made sure he connected with us before we left the building. We came back and stayed for the remaining 11 years we lived in Lansing. I appreciated his dedication to serving the church and all the lively discussions we had at board meetings. You will be missed! Well done good and faithful servant.

March 6, 2025 at 9:13 amThe Papoi’s were neighbors of Gene for several years. We loved being neighbors to this guy. When David was ill with pancreatic cancer, he loved Gene’s visits. One day he saw Gene walking to the driveway and said, look who is entertaining me today. He was also very helpful to me in making sure everything was in order prior to David’s death in 2000. God has another angel. Hugs to the family.

March 10, 2025 at 10:58 pmGene will be missed. He is in glory with his Lord whom he was so faithful to. Bill and I knew we were in the right church because of Gene’s genuine loving friendship that especially meant so much to Bill. This world sure could use a lot more of “Gene’s” in it.
Love and miss you Lennie. Loving prayers!
