Eric E. Holz

Age 92, passed away July 22, 2020, in Lansing. He was born May 1, 1928, in Lansing, to the late Oswald and Carrie (Hildorf) Holz.

Eric was a devoted lifelong Lutheran, attending Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church from birth, and later in life at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He was dedicated to his Lord, his family and his work as a Tool and Die maker at Adams Tool and Engineering, faithfully employed by them for 47 years, retiring in 1993. In his spare time, of which he had little, he enjoyed the cottage in Mecosta, which he built even before he owned a home in 1951, woodworking, gardening, classical music, the Opera, and helping friends on their farms, and being an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. He loved to fly, and as a young man, travelled all over the Midwest with his cousin Oscar Koehler in a Piper Super Cruiser, he pursued his own private pilot license at the age of 49, only to be cut short by a medical condition that disallowed him his flight certificate. The results of his woodworking and gardening endeavors brought him the most joy when he could share with others.

Eric is survived by his wife, Ethel “Peggy” Holz; children: Ken (Barb) Holz and Nancy (Rich) Jenkins; grandchildren: Nicholas (Joan) Jenkins of California, Eric (Tiffany) Holz, and Krista Holz; a great-granddaughter, Giana Garcia; a brother, Walter (JoAnn) Holz; sisters: Helen (Al) Holcomb and Lucille Holz; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Russell Holz.

There will be a funeral service held 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2020, at Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church with interment to follow in Delta Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund.
