Uncle Butch was a character! Seemingly stubborn and gruff, but later in life following a stroke, he was a softie with a sense of humor. I go to know him quite well from 2016-2020 helping him maintain his apartment, doing laundry and taking him grocery shopping at Meijers. He looked forward to those trips to ride an amigo around the store. Later he resided at Medilodge of East Lansing until his death. When you asked Butch how he was, he always remarked ?! At Benson Hills, prior to the Nursing Home, he could be seen riding his amigo around the grounds greeting residents with a wave and HELLO! He always wished people he saw with, Happy New Year! …even if it was the middle of summer! He got a lot of chuckles for that! He enjoyed decorating for the holidays and was quite a collector of “stuff.” Special thanks to my mom and his sister, Alice, for the 25 years she took care of him and to Jose’Brown, my brother-in-law and his nephew by marriage for his help in legal matters and visiting him to just chat, take him for a car ride, or buy him a treat! RIP Butch!

I met Emil in high school at St. Mary’s in the 10th grade. I remember he took shop class and loved working with cars. His first car was held together with Bondo; and then he got a gray Corvette. We used to drive around Sully’s Drive Inn on W. Saginaw and then “Cruise the Gut” on Washington Ave. Fond memories of 60 yrs ago.
