Eleanor Ruth Moore

Eleanor, of Lansing,  passed away on December 1, 2010. She was born in Maynard, Iowa, on July 22, 1923, to Inez and Raymond Lockwood.

Eleanor received her RN in Nursing from the University of Iowa and later completed her BS at Michigan State University after moving to Lansing and having her children. Eleanor married Leland “Lee” Moore on August 26, 1945. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary shortly before Lee died in 2005. Eleanor was a “stay-at-home” mom while her daughters were young and served for many years as a volunteer at Sparrow Hospital, as a Girl Scout leader, and in many capacities at Central United Methodist Church where she was a member for over 60 years. She returned to the work force as a nurse for Head Start and was a school nurse for the Lansing Public Schools for 16 years. Eleanor enjoyed sports and music of all kinds.

She loved to travel, play bridge, dance, sing with the church choir and Lansing Matinee Musicale, and read. She loved her flower gardens, the birds, and all of the beauty of nature. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her sense of humor, loyalty to family and friends, and perseverance through her own health problems were an inspiration to all who loved her. She will be greatly missed.

Eleanor is survived by her two loving daughters, Barbara VanDeVusse and Joan McKesson; her grandson, Jason McKesson (Missy); and great-grandsons, Jack and Dylan McKesson. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bevo Burrage; her brother-in-law, Dr. L.J. Moore; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010 at Central United Methodist Church in Lansing, co-officiated by the Rev. William Amundsen and Pastor Ronald Brooks. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central United Methodist Church, Woldumar Nature Center, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Barbara – This is so sad to have learned of you and your family losing your mom. My parents so enjoyed being friends with your parents, our “Central” families! Would hope to see you on Friday if not before.
