Duong Ngoc Nguyen
In Loving Memory
April 26, 1961 – November 4, 2023
Duong’s life journey came to a peaceful end on November 4, 2023, at the age of 62, leaving a deep void in our hearts. His sudden departure has left us all in shock, but we take solace in knowing that he has found eternal rest alongside his beloved wife, Tot. He is survived by his three children: Le-Hang, Jennifer and Christopher. Duong was a devoted grandpa to his four adored grandchildren, Alexia, Kaleb, Lilyanna and Liam, and a loving husband to Tot, as well as the second eldest brother to six beloved siblings.
Duong’s remarkable journey began when he left his homeland of Vietnam in his early 20s, seeking new horizons in the United States. He initially settled in the vibrant city of New Orleans and eventually made his way to Chicago where he honed his culinary skills as a chef in a Chinese restaurant. His life took a momentous turn when he discovered a Vietnamese church community in Michigan where he met and married his beloved Tot, sharing thirty-six years of love and commitment. Throughout the years he cultivated a passion for cooking and generously shared with those around him. An explorer at heart, he enjoyed traveling, savoring diverse cuisines, and preparing delectable meals for his grandchildren, Alexia, Kaleb and Lilyanna.
This year Duong embarked on memorable journeys to California to meet his cherished grandson and to Vietnam to reunite with his extended family. Every moment spent with him was treasured, for those who knew Duong, recognized his unconventional yet charismatic spirit, marching to the beat of his own drums. He leaves us with the enduring belief that he’s watching over us, inspiring us to honor his memory by living life to the fullest. In his own inimitable way, Duong has left an indelible mark on our hearts and will forever be cherished in our thoughts and memories.
