Dr. George Meluch

Dr. George R. Meluch, age 74, of Okemos, MI died on Thursday, April 27, 2023 with family and friends by his side. He was born in 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of George Meluch and Helen Rusyniak, and grew up in Lafayette, IN, where he graduated from Catholic Central High School. George was a Vietnam Veteran; he served in the U.S. Armed Forces, 101st Airborne Division (“Screaming Eagles”) from 1966-1969. He earned numerous awards, including a Bronze Star Medal.

After graduating from Purdue University with degrees in English and French, George married Carolyn Baaso and moved to Madison, WI. He worked in education and banking until he discovered his true passion in alternative healthcare. George received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College in Davenport, IA, and then settled with Carolyn and their two sons, Charles and Thomas, in the Lansing area, where he opened clinical practices in Williamston and Haslett.

George met Dr. Heather Dorey in 1998, and they operated a joint practice, Meridian Chiropractic Center in Haslett, from 2005 until George retired in 2021. After many years together, they married in 2009 and welcomed two daughters, Anna and Ava. George adored his family, and was always excited for the next “twin” adventure. Not only was he an amazing husband, father, and brother, but he was also a wonderful friend. He enriched many lives over the years as a caring employer. He was a truly dedicated professional, whose level of care and compassion to his patients cannot be expressed. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

George was an outdoor and exercise enthusiast, and enjoyed triathlons, paddle boarding, windsurfing, rollerblading, hiking, bungee jumping and skydiving. In 2022 he achieved his longtime goal of flying in a WWII P51 Mustang. He was also an avid reader, and liked music, theatre, cooking and travel. George was past President of the MI Chamber of Commerce and member of the MI Association of Chiropractors. He contributed to many charities and fundraisers. George will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, boundless energy, lively humor, and optimistic outlook on life, which lifted hearts and spirits wherever he went.

George is survived by his wife Heather and daughters Anna and Ava Meluch, and son Thomas Meluch (fiancée Molly), of Brooklyn, NY; brothers John Meluch (wife Paula) of Lafayette, IN, Christopher Melluck (wife Kimberly) of Indianapolis, IN, and Dr. Anthony Meluch (wife Lori) of Statesville, NC.; sister Mary Lerzak (husband Timothy) of Indianapolis, IN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son Charles Meluch, brother Stephen Meluch, sister Georglen Meluch, and brother Dismas Meluch.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 1 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Capital Area Literacy Coalition. Condolences may be left at EstesLeadley.com.

I’ve known George since college days. He was a friend not just my chiropractor. He truly helped me after my very bad car accident. He helped me overcome much pain. He always had a joke and a kind word. I will miss him greatly…I don’t know if anyone could ever fill his shoes…although many times, he would come into the treatment room barefoot…love you into eternity my friend.

It brought tears to my eyes to hear this. I have been a patient of Dr. George Meluch since he opened in Williamston and until he had retired. I was in a car accident and in a lot of pain. He helped me! a tree fell on me, He helped me! a tree knocked me off a mower, He helped me!
I once told him he could fix anything. So every time i came in he would ask me, what are we fixing today. I thanked God for Him every day. He will be missed greatly.
God bless His family and help them through the loss of a Loved one.

Dr. Meluch was so much more than a chiropractor, he was a manipulator of the soul. We were all in pain when we would go to see him. Not only did he rid us of our pain, but he cleared our souls with his excitement and enthusiasm and we all left with a smile on our faces. George also had such a great memory from appointment to appointment. I was learning how to play the guitar and he would pull up guitar videos to watch before I left. He was a gem, one that I will greatly miss. My life is better because I met this wonderful human being. Fly high Dr. Meluch…

This is shocking news! Dr Meluch will be greatly missed! He was the only chiropractor I would trust, next to his wife, Dr Dorey. I would not go to anyone except them!

Dr Meluch is exceptional! His wisdom & talents are beyond measure. To me, he was a miracle worker many times over.

Praying the Lord’s care & guidance over the family at this time of loss & sending my love.

It made me very sad to receive the letter with the news. Even though since covid we had not been in touch, I was a regular visitor of his office in Haslett since 2007, and appreciated his special treatments. No matter the situation walking in, my body felt so much better walking out from his office. But also my mood. I recommended George to so many people in the community…

Over all these years, we came to know each other a little. He met my daughter and my sister and would always ask about them. George liked that I spoke other languages and always teased me in Portuguese in a fun way. There were things we disagreed on and we argued without worry. I am grateful I met him and am sad to know he has left us. May he rest in peace.

I will miss George’s great spirit. A massage therapist once told me “there’s pressure, then there’s GEORGE pressure.” But the pressure was always in the proper crucial spot.
He often asked “What high-adventure are you planning this weekend?”. It made me feel healed in body and soul.

Thank you for the letter. Due to COVID, I hadn’t been in to see Dr. Meluch for a few years, but those years he treated me he was a miracle worker! So many times I came to his office in pain (often last minute walk-in) and walked out feeling better. Truly a gifted man with a huge heart. My sympathies to his family.
