Douglas Arthur Melville

Age 85, of Lansing, died peacefully October 16, 2012, at Prestige Pines after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  He was born November 15, 1926, in Jackson, MI, to Harriet Lucas.  Doug was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and worked at Haughton Elevator for 42 years, retiring in 1992.  He loved spending time at the family cottage in Leelanau County.  He was a member of Elevator Constructors Union #85, and attended Plymouth Congregational Church.

Surviving are:  his wife of 62 years, Marjorie; 4 children, Kirk (Debi) Melville, Sherrie (John) Baldwin, David (Sheri) Melville, and Cindy Bierwagen; 9 grandchildren; brothers, Ken (Norma) Melville, Russell (Patricia) Melville; sisters, Yvonne Defreitas, Beverly (Dick) Sharp; and sister-in-law, Judy Melville.  He was preceded in death by:  sister, Shirley Collard; and brother, Richard Melville.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2012, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 2001 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing.  The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until service time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Disease Research, or Plymouth Congregational Labyrinth Gardens in memory of Douglas Melville.  Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Dear David and Sherrie – so very sorry to hear of your father’s (in-law) passing. May you find peace in knowing he is in a better place.

Sherrie and Family – I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I know what a difficult time this is and my heart goes out to you. Always remember the special moments you shared, the laughter he created and, most importantly, remember how much he loved you.
He will live forever within your heart.
