Dorothy L. Alagna
Dorothy was born on July 9, 1933, to Harold and Anguel Pitts in Lansing, Michigan. She attended Lansing Sexton High School where she made lifelong friends who continued with monthly lunches well into their 80s. Dorothy married the love of her life, Samuel Alagna on February 24, 1950. They enjoyed a happy 67-year marriage that included lots of gardening, golfing, cardplaying and traveling. They were active volunteers in the community but especially enjoyed their time as members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Together they raised two daughters, Lucinda (Chuck) Pease and Lynette Levi. They were a constant in their grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives, rarely missing a school or sporting event, party, or life event. Dorothy was a devoted Christian, rarely missing a Sunday at her beloved North Presbyterian Church, which she attended since she was a child. She retired in 1994 from the State of Michigan.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Lynette. She is survived by her daughter Lucinda, eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; a sister Lucille (Harold) Koeplin; as well as nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, interment will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Ingham County Medical Care Facility.

January 24, 2022 at 11:32 amWhat wonderful friends Dorothy and Sam were to me. We spent many hours together working at our beloved North Presbyterian Church. There was nothing too menial, risky, or challenging for them to tackle in preserving the church they loved. They taught me much about the past days of the church. We even worked in the yard and parking lot. They were both such quality people and a real credit to society. I am privileged to have known and spent time with them.

January 28, 2022 at 10:13 amLucinda, So sorry to hear about your Mom. I wish I would have known sooner I would have been there in person. I loved your Mom and Dad. You know how close our Mothers were. They both cherished their “Gier Girls” lunches. When your Mom would cook liver and onions she would invite Steven for dinner when he was only about 10 because he loved it. Made me laugh. Lynette taught a class for one of my Granddaughters a few years ago. Lynette questioned Adri about her last name and asked if she knew “David”. Adri said Lynette told her how she knew our family. Lucinda we had a great childhood in a great neighborhood. Your parents were a wonderful part of that. I hope Dorothy and LaVerne are having lunch together now.
