Dorothy Jean Anderson
Dorothy, age 91, of East Lansing, MI, died August 22, 2023. She was born February 16, 1932, in Canton, Mississippi, to Rev. John A. Anderson and Lee Porter (Ransburgh) Anderson, the second of four siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ruth A. Kyles, a sister, Gayle Elaine Blackiston, and a niece, Faye Kitchen.
Dorothy was a lifelong resident of East Lansing, graduated in 1956 from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, and also took classes at Michigan State University and worked for 32 years as a microbiologist for the Michigan Department of Public Health.
Dorothy was an active member of Central United Methodist Church in Lansing. She was an avid reader and traveler. Dorothy loved cooking and gardening and grew every kind of vegetable imaginable and enjoyed giving her produce away. She loved going to movies and hanging out with friends. She loved her family deeply.
She leaves a brother, John A. Anderson, a niece, Audrey Faye Kyles, a goddaughter, Sylvia Allen, and a great-goddaughter, Bridget Allen to grieve.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Her family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
