Doris “Joan” Hickman

Age 80, of Lansing, MI, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017, in Lansing. She was born February 3, 1937, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to Edward and Flossie (Thomas) Sommers.

Joan was raised in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and later moved to Lansing where she worked at MSU for almost 36 years, retiring in 1997. She loved shopping, rainy days, watching sports and CNN news, and telling scary bedtime stories to the grandkids.

She is survived by her children: Michael Hickman, Machelle Hickman, and Tracey Weiss; grandchildren: Nicholas Weiss, and Daniel Neal; and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Wayne, Everett, Tom and Russell; and sisters: Mary, Madeline, Mae, Phyllis and Dorothy.

At Joan’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Karmanos Cancer Institute, or the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
