Donna Mae Piehl

Donna Mae Piehl (Uekert) of Holt, MI, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024, at the age of 95. Donna was born on January 7, 1929, in Rib Falls, Wisconsin. She grew up in Edgar, Wisconsin, where she met and married the love of her life, Marvin E. Piehl in 1950. They moved to Michigan in 1953 and were married for 61 years until Marvin’s passing in 2012.

Donna was a registered nurse working at St. Lawrence and then retired from Sparrow Hospital. She was active with the Lansing Civic Players community theatre for several years where she enjoyed working backstage, acting in various productions, and creating dear friendships.

She and Marvin loved traveling to warm sunny island paradises, taking family along with them at times for memorable vacations. Her joy was being at the cottage in Lake City, MI. She shared her passion for fishing, sunning, and just loving the lake life with Marvin. Their time at Lake Missaukee with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and our extended Lake family will always be cherished. Her vibrant personality and beautiful smile will be a special memory for those who knew her.

Donna was preceded in death by Marvin and her brothers Duane and Robert Uekert. She leaves behind her children: Thomas (Mary Lou) Piehl of Traverse City, Patricia Barrett of Holt, and Janet VanDouser of Holt; five grandchildren: Richard (Lisa) Barrett of Caledonia, Christina (Daniel) Schuesler of Lansing, Jeffery (Britt) Barrett of Everett, WA, Benjamin (Diana) Piehl of Harpers Ferry, WV, and Pamela (Hope) VanDouser of Clarkston, GA; and five great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Michaela (and their mother Heather), Marlee, Campbell, and Chase.

At this time the family will be gathering privately, with a remembrance celebration to be planned for the spring.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances for Donna may be as desired: donations to your favorite charity or local library, share a special memory, tell a fishing story, attend a local theater production, or just reach out to someone who could use a kind word and a smile.

Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

Jeff and family,
What little time I’ve spent with Donna’s family she seems to have left a good family legacy. I didn’t get to meet Donna but the family I have met are a statement to the family Jeff comes from. Thank you Jeff.

Donna was always like another mother to me when I was a teenager. She always welcomed me as one of her own. Such a kind and gracious woman!

I remember many times Marv and Donna took care of me…along with my friend Janet. I wish the family peace. I will remember Donna with love and also remember the memories.
