Della M. Christensen
Della M. Christensen (Kitson/Hansens), of Fife Lake, MI, formerly of Lansing, went to be with her Lord on March 8, 2012 at the age of 89. She was born in Marion, MI on February 9, 1923 to Charles and Mary Kitson (Covey).
She graduated valedictorian of the McBain High School class of 1942. Della retired after 23 years from the State of Michigan, Elevator Division. She also worked at Uncle John’s Pancake House in Lansing for 10 years. She loved cake decorating, reading, gardening, camping, and watching wildlife. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lansing and Fife Lake Baptist Church.
She is survived by her 7 children, Mary and Phillip Quintela, Mel Hansens, Kathie and Bill Lawens, Victor and Chris Hansens, Helen Hansens, Alice Hansens and Greg Gwiner, Phillip and Andi Hansens, 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Her extended family includes 3 stepchildren, Gary Christensen, Gwen Catlin, and Teresa Byrnes, 16 stepgrandchildren, and numerous step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gale Christensen, her parents, 4 sisters and 1 brother, twin grandsons, 1 great-granddaughter and 2 stepgrandsons.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday and 12-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Tribes Mission, 1000 E. First St., Sanford, FL 32771.
